How to apply Heroes Pure
Step 1
Get your walls ready
Think of this as giving your walls a fresh start. Brush away any dust or dirt and remove loose or flaking paint so your new colour has the perfect surface to stick to. If your walls have already been painted, a quick clean with sugar soap will help remove everyday grease and marks. If the finish is shiny, a light sand will help your paint go on too.
If you’ve spotted mould, it’s really important to deal with it before you start decorating. Simply treat the area with Heroes Mould Remover first and allow it to dry completely before decorating.

Step 2
Smooth the imperfections
Don’t worry if your walls aren’t perfect, most aren’t.
Fill any small holes or cracks with some filler and once it’s dry, gently sand the area until it’s nice and smooth. It’s a quick job that makes a big difference, helping your finished walls look their very best.
If you’re decorating onto fresh plaster, you’ll also need a mist coat first. This can be made by thinning a suitable emulsion with 20% water or by using a contract emulsion designed for new plaster.
Step 3 (optional)
Add more protection
You’re already putting your walls to work purifying the air. Why stop there? If you’d like to build in mould protection at the same time, apply Heroes Shield to the wall first.
Think of Shield as the mould protection underneath. Two coats go on before you apply Pure, reducing the moisture that mould needs to get started.
Pure can then be applied straight over the top in your chosen colour, giving you the full Heroes System.
A HELPING HAND
Worth the extra step? In independent testing, Shield allowed 4.6× less condensation to form than standard emulsion.
Step 4
Make the room your own
Now for the enjoyable part. Give your tin a really good stir before you begin to make sure everything is nicely mixed.
Use a medium pile roller for walls and ceilings and a good-quality brush for cutting in those hard to reach areas. If you’re decorating a larger room, Heroes Pure can also be applied with an airless sprayer.
Work your way around the room a section at a time, slightly overlapping as you go. There’s no need to rush; taking your time will help you achieve a lovely smooth finish.
A HELPING HAND
Most walls will cover at around 12–14m² per litre, although rougher or more absorbent surfaces may need a little more paint.
Step 5
Let your hard work dry
When the first coat has dried, usually after 1–4 hours, you’re ready for the second. Two coats are all most rooms need for an even finish. If you’ve chosen a darker shade, an extra coat might be needed.
Once you’ve finished decorating, give your walls a little time to settle before exposing them to lots of steam or moisture. Waiting around 12 hours will help the paint fully cure so it can work at its best.
Every home is different, so don’t worry if your paint takes longer to dry. Room temperature, ventilation and humidity can all make a difference.

Yes. Heroes Pure is low odour, so you can freshen up your home without strong paint smells taking over. Just remember to keep the room well ventilated while you decorate and as the paint dries. It’s an ideal choice for family homes and spaces that need to be back in use quickly.
Leave your first coat to dry for around 1–4 hours before applying the second. Exactly how long it takes will depend on how warm and well ventilated the room is.
