You might think a quick wipe with a damp cloth or a few coats of paint would be enough to keep mould away for good. Unfortunately, it’s not that easy.
Mould is stubborn. If the moisture and condensation that help it grow are still around, it can soon make an unwelcome comeback. That’s why it’s important to do more than simply cover it up. You need to tackle the mould itself and help create an environment where it won’t come back.
That’s where the Heroes system comes in. By bringing together Heroes Mould Remover, Heroes Shield and Heroes Pure, you can give your walls the protection they need while helping create a cleaner, fresher and healthier-feeling home for the whole family.
In this how to treat mould blog, we will cover:

Mould thrives in damp, humid conditions. Around the home, everyday activities such as cooking, taking hot showers and drying clothes indoors can all add moisture to the air.
When this warm, moist air comes into contact with cooler walls and ceilings, condensation can form. Over time, this can create the conditions mould needs to develop.
You might notice mould first appearing in areas such as bathrooms, kitchens, bedrooms or around windows, where condensation can be more common.
Heroes Fact
Wiping visible mould from your walls or ceiling might make the surface look cleaner but it doesn’t necessarily deal with the actual problem.
Painting directly over mould isn’t the answer either. If mould is still there or the conditions causing it haven’t been sorted, it can grow back. Leaving you with the same problems all over again.
The key is to clean, protect then paint.

THE HEROES TECHNICAL TEAM
First things first, it’s time to tackle the mould that’s already there.
Heroes Mould Remover is a mould and mildew cleaner which gets rid of existing mould and prepares your walls for decorating.
If you spot mould on your walls or ceilings, treat it before you start painting. Simply spray the affected area from around 15–20 cm away and let it to dry. Once dry, just wipe away any remaining residue with a clean, damp cloth. If mould or staining is still visible, you will need to repeat this until the surface is clean.
Once the mould has been treated and the surface is clean, you’re ready for the next part.
With the existing mould dealt with, it’s worth thinking about what may have caused it in the first place.
Condensation can create the damp conditions mould needs to thrive. Heroes Shield helps tackle these conditions, using Micro-Sphere Technology to help keep walls warmer which stops condensation build-up.
Apply two coats of Heroes Shield to your prepared walls or ceilings. Once dry, it can be left as a white finish or overcoated with Heroes Pure or another water-based paint.

Now that your walls are clean and protected, it’s time to bring your room to life.
Apply Heroes Pure over Heroes Shield to complete the Heroes system. As an air-purifying paint, Heroes Pure helps remove airborne pollutants, helping create a fresher-feeling home for the whole family.
From bedrooms and bathrooms to kitchens and living spaces, Heroes Pure lets you add your favourite colours while keeping the protection underneath.

It’s best not to. Painting directly over mould can cover up the problem rather than properly treating the affected surface, so the mould will just reappear in no time.
Yes, mould can return if the conditions that caused it are still present. That’s why treating existing mould is only part of the solution. Reducing condensation and moisture in your home can help prevent it from coming back.
Not necessarily. Each product has a different role and can be used independently. However, when you’re tackling existing mould and want the full Heroes protection system, using the Mould Remover, Shield and Pure together gives your home the protection it needs.
When mould appears around windows, in corners, on colder walls or in areas with poor ventilation, it can often be linked to condensation. However, persistent damp or mould can have other causes, so it’s important to investigate if the problem keeps returning.
Using extractor fans, opening windows where appropriate and avoiding drying clothes indoors can all help reduce excess moisture. Keeping rooms warm and well ventilated will also help.
